Blog Books and Reviews

This December, I promised to purchase five books from the Holiday Book Blog Catalog. However, I have a weakness for books (and cake) and so I ended up purchasing ten to date (which is not to say that there will be more in the future):

1 – Blood, Money, Power by Michele Marie Tate
2 – The Cowboy and the Vampire by Clark Hayes and Kathleen McFall
3 – Prophecy Moon by Laura Eno
4 – The Man of Shadows by Angel Zapata
5 – Loathsome, Dark, and Deep by Aaron Polson
6 – Slash and Burn by Matt Hilton (still en route)
7 – Pomegranate Stories by Gay Degani
8 – Flash! edited by Chris Bartholomew
9 – Lazarus by Lori Titus
10 – Apostle Rising by Richard Godwin (waiting for release)

So far, I’ve read Laura Eno’s Prophecy Moon, and I’m currently writing a review for. I’ve also read and reviewed The Cowboy and the Vampire by Clark Hayes and Kathleen McFall – read the review here, and I just finished Loathsome, Dark, and Deep by Aaron Polson, which I’ll also be writing a review for.

I’m in the middle of Angel Zapata’s The Man of Shadows, Chris Bartholomew’s Flash! Anthology, Gay Degani’s Pomegranate Stories, and I look forward to reading Lori Titus’ Lazarus, Matt Hilton’s Slash and Burn, Richard Godwin’s Apostle Rising, and Michele Marie Tate’s Blood, Money, Power, who I had the pleasure of sharing an author table with at the Willamette Writer’s Book Faire.

I will be giving reviews of all the books I read, and I encourage everyone else to do the same for the blog books they read. Reviews support the writer by identifying strengths and/or weaknesses in the book, they can boost sales, and they help validate the hard work it took to get all those ideas into print.

Thanks to everyone who helped support their fellow writers. Cheers!

  1. Yay! I've tried to review most of the small press stuff I read. "Tried" being the operative word. When I do get around to it, I usually post in two or three places, and always at Amazon.com. I, too, look forward to what you have to say, good or bad. ;)

  3. Hey Erin, thanks for shelling out for 'Slash and Burn'. Hope you didn't get hit with hefty mailing fees. I take it it's not available direct in the US yet, as the US edition isn't published to this coming November. Hope you like it enough to say nice things LOL.best wishesMatt

  4. You must be Super Mom, Erin, to find the time to read, write and review so much! I am in awe. Thank you for the wonderful push you give to the writer community!

  5. Yay, Erin. Wonderful! You're a busy girl. I get so nervous about writing the reviews and procrastinate… I want to do the best possible job and worry and tinker and finally say Jodi get over it and post. Sheesh. I look forward to reading what you think. The holiday book blog was a great idea and I purchased several myself. ;-)

  6. Matt, don't remember shelling out too much, but it sure is taking awhile to deliver! : )Laura, I wish I did things as well as it looks like I do : ) Thanks. I'll let you know when I post a review.Jodi, writing reviews definitely has its challenges and I often find myself learning something else from the book that hadn't notice at the end of reading it. Sometimes that makes doing a review that much better for our own story telling. Tea Time with Warthog was the first story I read in Flash! and not just because you were the opener! Congrats on that.

  7. What a great way to share. I really look forward to your reviews – there are some great authors in your list, some I know – others I'd love to know more about. Thanks for taking the time to do this.
